Installation of Solar Street Lights in Galmudug, Somalia
The Somalia Stability Fund (SSF) implemented project activities with the objective of providing street lighting in Galmudug State.
Through a bidding process, La Femme Engineering Services Ltd was awarded the contract, to conduct Project Management and Construction Supervision Services during the installation of the Solar street lighting.
The construction works involved the installation and supply of Solar streetlights in the following areas with the number of streetlights to be installed:
- Cadado: 75 Solar Lights
- Guriceel: 124 Solar Lights
- Hurshe: 40 Solar Lights
- Herale: 40 Solar Lights
- Mirjile: 20 Solar Lights

Repair and Rehabilitation of the Oxidation Ponds
UNON intended to rehabilitate the existing oxidation ponds in order to sustain the ever-growing number of staff and visitors within the complex. One primary aim of the project is improving operational efficiency of the ponds by increasing retention time of each pond hence better treatment of waste water which is re-used to irrigate the green landscape within the Complex. The construction methodology works ensured that existing services supply are not interrupted.
The works involved included the removal and disposal of the sewage waste, Re-shaping, deepening, compacting and grading the sides and bottom of the ponds and Installation of new Geotextile, HDPE liners and HDPE baffles.

Warsheikh District Project
SSF intended to provide water to the residents of Warsheikh town. LFE was contracted to undertake a hydrogeological survey for a borehole and design and construction supervision of a water supply system powered by solar energy, structural designs in water tanks, generator house, animal troughs, and water kiosk.

Water Supply in Warsheikh District, Somalia
In efforts to improve services in Warsheikh town which is one of the oldest coastal towns in Somalia, SSF, with other partners engaged LFE to provide a hydrogeological survey, site assessment, and Engineering design for the proposed boreholes and associated water supply works in Warsheikh. LFE supervised the drilling of the borehole and the construction of the water supply system.
SSF also proposed to supply a solar mini hybrid energy system that is independent and reliable. This intervention contributed to the improvement of the quality of the lifestyle of the target beneficiaries. This project provided electricity to 200 homes and business premises of the Warsheikh residents, reducing the expenses of purchasing unsafe power alternatives.

Specific Assignment undertaken by the Firm

- Design and installation of a new reinforced concrete septic tank
- Design and installation of a concrete pump chamber with a pitch and a submersible pump to exhaust water in case of flood. The chamber shall be provided with an over flood remote control.
- Design and installation of a pumping system to lift the wastewater from the outlet of the new septic tank up to a 20-metre head.
- Installation of one (1) wastewater meters to monitor the wastewater consumption.
- Installation of ten (10) under sink grease traps for the existing kitchens.

Warsheikh District Project
To provide technical support and carry out geotechnical and geophysical investigations at proposed dam sites and to develop detailed designs for the proposed dams based the consultant’s experience and on the macro and micro studies to be made available by MoEWT.
Specific Assignment undertaken by the Firm
- Review and evaluate preliminary studies on sand, weir and sub-surface dam locations proposed by the Macro study and taking into account the lessons described in the Micro study.
- Carryout soil investigation with a vicinity of dam site to locate suitable material for dam construction.
